Why Passion Based Wellness

Memory & Imagination vs. Truth

For the past decade, resilience (the ability to recover from or adjust easily to adversity or change) has been a popular goal and overused term in mental wellness. It encourages the process of recovery and adjustment when adversity or change in the world affects us. PBW focuses on acceptance that this change is inevitable and constant. Instead of a mindset of reaction, it promotes acceptance that ongoing change is life and it must be anticipated and embraced. It diffuses the power of stress and anxiety by acknowledging that they exist only because of our memory of the past and imagination of the future. Since we cannot change the past and most of what we anticipate in the future never comes to pass, PBW teaches that stress and anxiety are natural habits, but have very little purpose.

While much of our society has decided to allow emotions like anger and fear to be commonly acceptable, (even believed by some to be healthy), HLN students are taught that the duration they focus on such emotions is a choice. We relinquish our power when we allow others the privilege of controlling our emotions. This is simple, but the habit must be taught because it represents a shift from our standard mindset. Once it is understood that emotions like anger and fear live only in our memory and imagination, they can be released as untruths.

HLN students learn that they are not truths, but exist only in our imagination.
